Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 30, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Mystery Portal ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information from users (each, a "User") of our mobile application and related website ("App"). This policy applies to the App and all products and services we offer. By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
You can browse the App anonymously without an account. If you choose to create an account or post content, we collect the following:
- Account information: your email address, a securely hashed password, a display name, and (optionally) a profile picture or avatar color. Anonymous users do not provide an email address.
- Content you create: the sighting reports, photos, videos, comments, and other text you choose to post. This content — together with your display name and profile picture — is publicly visible to other Users in the community feed.
- Location information: when you create a report you may attach an approximate location and place name, which is stored with that report and shown publicly. We may also store your last known location so we can notify you about sighting activity near you ("hotspot" or nearby alerts). We do not track your location continuously in the background, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
- Photos, videos, and media: images and videos you attach to a report or profile are uploaded to and stored on our cloud storage, and (for community posts) made publicly viewable to other Users.
- Notifications: if you enable push notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver alerts. You can turn notifications off at any time.
- Diagnostic data: we collect limited crash and error reports to keep the App working and fix problems.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above only to operate and improve the App, specifically to:
- Create and secure your account and let you sign in and reset your password;
- Publish the reports, photos, comments, and location tags you choose to share with the community;
- Notify you about relevant activity, including sighting activity near you (when you enable location alerts) and responses to your content;
- Verify your subscription status and provide premium features you have purchased;
- Provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- Diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and keep the App secure.
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Free registered users may voluntarily watch a Google AdMob rewarded ad to receive one upload or one media download. Insiders are ad-free. Where consent does not permit personalized advertising, we request non-personalized ads.
3. Publicly Shared Content
Mystery Portal is a community app. Any report, photo, video, comment, place name, or location you post to the community — along with your display name and profile picture — is public and may be viewed, saved, or shared by others, including people who are browsing anonymously. Please do not include information you want to keep private in the content you post.
4. Permissions We Use
The App requests the following device permissions only when you use the related feature, and only to make that feature work. You can grant or revoke any of these at any time in your device settings, and you can use the App without granting them (some features will be limited).
- Camera & Microphone: to let you capture photos or videos of a sighting you choose to record.
- Photos / Media Library: to let you select existing images or videos for a report or your profile picture.
- Location: to tag the approximate location of a sighting you report, suggest a nearby place name, and (if you enable it) notify you about sighting activity near you.
5. How We Share Information & Third-Party Service Providers
Aside from the community content you choose to make public (see Section 3), we do not sell or disclose your personal information for marketing purposes. We share limited data with trusted service providers strictly so the App can function:
- Google Play Billing: all subscription and in-app purchases are processed securely by Google. We do not collect or store your card, banking, or billing-address details.
- Subscription management (RevenueCat): we use a subscription-management provider to verify your purchase and premium entitlement status.
- Email delivery (Resend): we use an email provider to send account-related emails such as password resets.
- Cloud storage: photos and videos you upload are stored with a cloud storage provider so they can be shared in the community.
- Crash & diagnostics (Sentry): we use a diagnostics provider to receive crash and error reports.
- Rewarded advertising (Google AdMob and Google UMP): when a non-Insider chooses to watch a rewarded ad, Google may process device identifiers, IP address, approximate location, ad interactions, consent choices, and diagnostic data to select, deliver, measure, and prevent fraud in advertising. Google's User Messaging Platform collects and stores your advertising-consent choice where required. We do not request Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission unless a future personalized-ad configuration requires it. Completing an ad is verified server-to-server and bound to your account to prevent reward abuse. See Google's Privacy Policy.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our Users and the App.
6. Data Retention & Your Choices
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active. You can edit or delete content you posted, disable notifications and location alerts, and revoke device permissions at any time. To request deletion of your account and associated personal data, contact us at the email below and we will process your request.
7. Data Security
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures — including password hashing and access controls — to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data.
8. Children's Privacy
Our App does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
10. Your Acceptance of These Terms
By downloading and using this App, you signify your acceptance of this policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use our App.
